Whatever Happened To The Western?

Here’s a comment that was posted today on our Facebook page about our current show, Calamity Jane: Cowgirls Just Wanna Have Fun!

This show was hysterical. I’ve never laughed so hard. Brand new cast and great olio!!!! Thought it was going to be lame because of the western theme. But was pleasantly surprised.

I was surprised to hear that she thought the show would be lame because of the western theme.  I hope people aren’t staying away from this show because it’s a Western!  If you are—as Jillian learned—you’re missing a great show.

Calamity Jane is not your grandpa’s Western!  It’s a Desert Star comedy with all that entails: zany characters, a hilarious villain with bumbling sidekicks, fun songs, audience participation, and laugh-out-loud comedy.  It’s also accompanied by one of our best olios ever.

The At The Movies Olio has hilarious skits, a ton of good songs, sensational singing, and some unforgettable comedy moments.

Regardless of whether or not you’re a Western fan, if you like Desert Star comedy, you’ll love Calamity Jane!

From the ‘40s to the ‘60s, Westerns were very popular on TV and in the movies.  When I was a kid, it seems like most of the shows on TV were Westerns.

Why do you think the public’s taste has turned away from Westerns?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.
